Empowering Communities Through Environmental Awareness and Action

April 21, 2026 - The College of Forestry of Adiong Memorial State College, through its 3rd Year students and in collaboration with the AKHUYA Youth Organization, successfully conducted an Islamic and Educational Seminar anchored on the theme: “Save Mother Earth: Act Today for a Greener Tomorrow.” Held at Catogonan, Buadiposo-Buntong, Lanao del Sur, the activity gathered enthusiastic participation from members of the local community.

The seminar aimed to strengthen environmental awareness, promote sustainable practices, and highlight the importance of integrating both scientific knowledge and Islamic values in caring for the Earth.

For. Alinor C. Abdulazis delivered two significant topics. His first discussion, “Solid Waste Management: Proper Segregation, Recycling, and Sustainable Practices,” emphasized the importance of responsible waste disposal, proper segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials, and the role of recycling in reducing environmental pollution.

In his second lecture, “Watershed Management: Protecting Water Resources for a Sustainable Future,” he explained the concept of watersheds as vital sources of clean water. He discussed how deforestation, pollution, and irresponsible human activities threaten water systems, and stressed the need for collective action in protecting these natural resources.

Mohammad Khosney A. Ramal delivered an inspiring lecture on “Environmental Stewardship in Islam: Our Responsibility as Khalifah.” He emphasized that in Islam, humans are entrusted as Khalifah (stewards) of the Earth, bearing the responsibility to protect and preserve Allah’s creation.

The seminar successfully fostered a deeper understanding of how individual and collective actions can significantly contribute to environmental protection. The success of this initiative highlights the strong partnership between the academe, youth organizations, and the community in promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.
