Faculty Empowerment: Academic Standards and Faculty Development Refresher 2026 Kicks Off

In a dedicated effort to enhance educational quality and institutional alignment, faculty members participated in a series of development activities this January. The "Academic Standards and Faculty Development Refresher 2026" focused on two critical areas: curriculum making and computer literacy.

The week began on Monday, January 12, 2026, with a refresher lecture led by Dr. Karina Mauna, Associate Professor V, focusing on Curriculum Making. The session addressed the CHED memorandum on syllabus making, which establishes the guidelines for higher education in the Philippines. Central to the discussion was the necessity of aligning syllabi with Quality Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE) standards.

To ensure faculty members are prepared for modern educational requirements, Dr. Mauna presented a template for OBE-ready (Outcome-Based Education) syllabus design. This structured approach is intended to meet specific curriculum objectives and comply with revised policies for various undergraduate teacher education degree programs.

The development series continued on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with a Computer Refresher session held at the IT Lab from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Facilitated by ITO1 Junaid Bayabao Ahmad and the ICTO team, the training focused on CHED Memorandum Order No. 025-01, which outlines revised policies for Information Technology Education (ITE) in the Philippines.

The memorandum aims to increase global competitiveness by emphasizing the development of technical skills, analytical processes, and values in students. Key requirements discussed included the mandate for higher education institutions (HEIs) to secure proper authority to operate ITE programs, specific qualifications for faculty and administrative roles, a structured curriculum that integrates practical experience through internships and the provision of adequate physical and educational resources to support student learning.
