CHED, BARMM SUC Leaders push for Adequate Funding in FY 2027 National Budget Deliberations

Quezon City, Philippines — Leaders of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), headed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), gathered at the House of Representatives for the pre-plenary budget hearing to present and defend their proposed fiscal allocations for Fiscal Year 2027.

Representing the regional higher education institutions, Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, College President of Adiong Memorial State College, served as the Chairperson for BARMM SUCs during the proceedings. Dr. Adiong presented the BARMM SUCs Consolidated Report F.Y. 2027, advocating for the financial and operational needs of higher learning institutions across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Under the proposed FY 2027 National Expenditure Program (NEP), state universities and colleges are slated to receive ₱141.090 billion—marking a ₱6.099 billion increase from the FY 2026 NEP allocation.

CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis and PASUC President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo joined SUC heads to emphasize the critical role of sustainable funding. According to CHED, ensuring adequate SUC funding is essential for upgrading and maintaining campus facilities, classrooms, and laboratories, supporting faculty development and welfare, strengthening institutional research and innovation and expanding student support and delivery of quality education.

Working under the "One Education" framework alongside the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), CHED and SUC leadership continue to coordinate with Congress to ensure SUC requirements are fully recognized in the final General Appropriations Act (GAA).
