ILOILO CITY – The vibrant spirit of Philippine heritage took center stage as the National Culture and the Arts Festival (NCAF) 2026, themed "Pagsaulog," officially commenced at West Visayas State University (WVSU).

Bringing together delegates from across the Philippines, the event serves as a grand celebration of the nation's diverse artistic and cultural identity.

The festivities began at 1:00 p.m. at Jaro Plaza, where participants gathered for a massive foot parade that started an hour later.

The procession wound its way through the city streets toward the historic Quezon Hall at WVSU.

The afternoon was highlighted by a dazzling street dance, where performers in bright, colorful costumes transformed the route into a "living tapestry of national heritage and unity".

Among the prominent participants were representatives from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) was represented by Doc Norhaya Barodi Lumabao, the PASUC Regional NCAF head for BARMM, alongside Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, its SUC 1 President.

Upon reaching Quezon Hall, each region proudly showcased their Mr. and Ms. PASUC delegates, representing the pride and diversity of their respective communities.

The grand opening program featured a prestigious lineup of speakers and cultural leaders. Senator Loren B. Legarda served as the keynote speaker, represented by PASUC President Tirso B. Ronquillo. Other high-ranking officials delivering messages of support included Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Hon. Eric B. Zerrudo, Chairperson of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Hon. Raisah Treñas-Chu, Iloilo City Mayor and Hon. Arthur R. Defensor Jr., Iloilo Province Governor.

The "Pagsaulog" festival continues to celebrate the energy and artistry of the Filipino people, reinforcing the role of state universities and colleges in preserving the country’s cultural legacy.
