AMSC President Dr. Adiong Joins National Assembly of SUC Leaders; Discusses Future of Higher Education and Online Modality

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, President of Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC), joined a high-level assembly of over 112 university and college presidents for a pivotal consultative meeting hosted by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Dr. Shirley Agrupis.

The gathering, held alongside the National Culture and the Arts Festival, served as a strategic forum to align the operations of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) with the national administration’s evolving vision for the Philippine education sector.

The consultation focused on streamlining institutional processes to ensure a cohesive national standard. Dr. Adiong and her counterparts engaged in intensive discussions regarding the following, to wit: first, Academic Synchronization such as finalizing key dates for the current school year to ensure regional consistency; second is Fiscal Planning such as reviewing budget allocations aimed at improving campus infrastructure and student support services; third, Workforce Expansion like developing strategies to hire additional educators to address faculty shortages and improve the teacher-to-student ratio; and lastly, Curriculum Standardization same with aligning course offerings to meet global standards while remaining rooted in local relevance.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to proposed amendments to existing memoranda. Most notably, the leaders discussed the potential for a 100% online modality for college classes. This proposal seeks to provide flexibility and continuity in learning, especially as institutions navigate the ongoing implementation of austerity measures triggered by recent global events.

As the administration pushes for a more modernized higher education landscape, the participation of AMSC highlights the college's proactive stance in policy-making. The discussions held in Iloilo are expected to shape the implementation of new educational frameworks that balance fiscal responsibility with the pursuit of academic excellence.
