AMSC Researchers Navigate the Path to Scopus and Web of Science Recognition in Camiguin Workshop
Mambajao, Camiguin — Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to global academic standards, a delegation from Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) actively participated in the high-level research convention, "Publishing for Impact: Advancing Sustainability & SDG-Driven Research in High-Impact Journals," held at the Paras Beach Resort from April 6-8, 2026.
The three-day intensive program, organized by the International Association of Research Ethics Across Disciplines, Inc. (IAREAD), was designed to equip researchers with the skills necessary to navigate the rigorous requirements of Scopus and Web of Science-indexed journals.
A primary objective of the summit was guiding scholars to align their academic work with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that local research contributes directly to solving urgent global and national challenges.
Representing AMSC was a dedicated team of researchers headed by the College Research Director, Ma’am Alliah Pandapatan. She was joined by research assistants Ms. Elle Labial, Ma’am Sohryah Jamel, and Ma’am Omaidah Adiong. The team engaged with international experts and fellow academic minds from across Mindanao to explore innovative methodologies and ethical publishing practices.
In fact, AMSC’s participation underscores a strategic goal to transition from local relevance to international competitiveness. By focusing on SDG-driven outcomes, the college aims to address critical issues such as quality education, poverty reduction, and sustainable communities through data-driven advocacy.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Genaro V. Japos, Founder of the Asean Research Organization, who framed the training as a progressive journey for the modern scholar. On its day 1, April 6, the event commenced with the arrival and orientation of participants at the scenic Camiguin resort. The following day, April 7, sessions focused on the technical requirements of high-impact journals, including indexing and ranking criteria. Researchers learned to structure manuscripts for maximum clarity and rigor. A key highlight was a session on navigating the peer review process, which organizers characterized not as a hurdle, but as a "partnership in knowledge creation". On its third session, April 8, the final day elevated the conversation to societal impact. Participants explored how to integrate SDGs into research design and utilize tools to measure environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts
The program concluded with a roadmap for leveraging international networks and grants to fund and elevate Filipino scholarship to a global scale. The philosophy behind the convention is that academic publishing is more than a matter of prestige; it is a platform to ensure the “Philippine voice is heard in the international research community”.
As the convention concluded, the AMSC team prepared to return to their campus with enhanced frameworks for mentorship and research development. The State College is expected to roll out internal workshops to echo these learnings, fostering a renewed culture of "Publishing for Impact" among both faculty and the student body.
For institutions interested in future collaborations, IAREAD offers co-hosting opportunities via Memorandums of Understanding (MOU)
